BELLAS ARTES MAISON CRÉATIVE is a publishing company that collaborates with artists to create books and special works in product, sound, space and design.
The Maison was originally inspired by the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City - an institution that physically houses the country’s greatest works in fine art across disciplines. Attempting to materialise this concept in a modern context, Bellas Artes aims to house a network of international artists through publishing, and create a space, a ‘creative house’, to act as a playground for the exchange, manifestation, and cataloging of new ideas.
That is the contextualisation of Bellas Artes - at X point in time, X artist collaborated with the Maison and crafted X under it’s name, manifesting it’s own subculture and meaning within the international ecosystem of Bellas Artes. In this way the ‘Maison Créative’ becomes a ‘creative house’, figuratively, inhabited individually project by project, artist by artist, and occupied collectively by a community at large.
The design principles the Maison aims to advance adhere to the dichotomy in the concept-vs-matter of bookmaking - the book acts as a material piece of art in itself, as well as an archival manifestation of the artistic material inside.
The grounding idea behind Bellas Artes is that every effort in the exchange of ideas, and the concept-to-product journey, is done in collaboration with the artist with the aim of creating works that act as manifestations of their respective medium through the individual point of view of the artist.
This approach rears the conversation towards an appreciation for materials and works at face value, and ideas at concept value. Works across product, sound, space and moving image, exist and act to fulfill themselves as mediums of expression.
A song is a timestamp, fulfilling part of a digital library of sound. A film stands as an experiential meditation on sound and moving image. A book is a physical, depreciating material archive. Works of art become physical and digital studies of a collective cultural architecture.
Though officially founded in 2024 in Barcelona, the company traces its roots back to 2021, and has since established international roots in London, New York, Brussels, and more.
